What's the difference between PIF Samaritan Services and Coaching with a Karen?

PIF Samaritan Services builds the wellness program strategy for an organization. Coaching with a Karen trains the team directly in the practices behind that strategy. Karen Hurley leads both and determines which one, or both, fits after an initial assessment.

Does Karen Hurley work with organizations outside public safety?

Yes. Karen also serves law firms, school districts, emergency management and other high-pressure professional teams. See who Karen serves.

What does the assessment actually include?

The assessment is a paid diagnostic: Karen evaluates the organization's current wellness program or team practices and delivers a plan that can be acted on with or without further engagement.

Is Coaching with a Karen individual coaching?

No. Coaching with a Karen is team-based training only; Karen has intentionally built the practice around teams rather than one-on-one sessions.

What is a fractional wellness strategist?

A fractional wellness strategist works with an organization part-time, sized to its needs and budget, instead of the organization hiring a full-time wellness director. Karen Hurley assesses where the risk sits, builds the plan, helps implement it in person and stays on to track whether it is working.

What's the difference between a wellness resource and a wellness program?

A resource is something available if someone seeks it out: an EAP number, an app, a once-a-year training. A program is a documented, funded strategy built around the organization's actual risk, with someone accountable for whether it's working. Most organizations have resources. Few have programs.

Is a wellness app enough on its own?

Usually not. An app gives access to generic resources, but there's no strategist behind it building a program for your organization's risk, and no in-person relationship to make the tools stick. Karen helps organizations choose and roll out technology as part of a larger plan through PIF Samaritan Services.

Is Karen Hurley a therapist?

No. Karen's work is wellness strategy, consulting and team training, not clinical treatment. Clinical providers treat a crisis; Karen builds the program that helps prevent as many crises as possible, and the two roles work alongside each other.

How long does a typical engagement take?

Draft Timeline ranges for PIF's three tiers and Coaching with a Karen's team training format, to confirm with Karen.
